- A VIKING FAIRY TALE - PART 2 -
THE SWORD
"You are going on the raid this year!" shouted a well known voice near the village.
Knud looked up and saw his father. "The chief has chosen you to go this time."
He could hardly believe it. But he was very proud. It was time. He knew that the raid would be his manhood test. He would also get a sword.
"Come," said his father, "we are going to the smith to order a sword.
They went to the smith’s shop. "My son’s turn has come," said the father. "Find the best bog iron ore and make him a beautiful sword. He deserves the best." The smith was pleased to help and found some exquisite bog iron ore.
Finally the day arrived when Knud got his sword. His face was beaming as he held it in his hand. He would soon conquer the strangers who lived on the other side of the ocean. He swung the sword in the air. The smith had engraved Thor’s hammer as a special decoration. It would give the sword more power.
