- A VIKING FAIRY TALE - PART 7 -
THE RETURN TO DENMARK
Upon his return, Knud ran to the farm to see his family.
He hugged his old father and told him about all that had happened in the foreign land.
"Look at the sword, Father, Thor’s hammer has been replaced with a cross,"
Knud said eagerly and pointed to the handle.
His father was quiet. He had seen the smith engrave the sign of a hammer so how could that be? It was a mystery. Others saw the sword and were convinced that there was another god but his father was still sceptical.
Many wanted to make a house for the new god. A monk who had come from the south said there was no need to destroy the big god houses on the hills, only the altars, and then dedicate the houses to the new god. And so it was.
Knud enjoyed going there. There was something liberating about this new worship.
