In this short story with a theme from the time of the Vikings we hear about the boy Knud, who is going to take part in a raid for the first time with the men from the village. He has been looking forward to that for a long time, but it turns out to be quite different from what he had imagined.
Knud meets a monk who does not react with fear as the Vikings were used to, but tells him that there are other treasures than honour and gold, which you will loose one day. But what the King of Heaven can give is everlasting.
Knud begins to believe in this new God and is allowed to experience the truth of the promise of God, when he returns home to his village again.
