THE WORD OF GOD

In the monastery the monk was kneeling by the altar. Above his head Knud was reading a text he hadn’t seen before. It said,   "You shall worship the Lord your God, and I will bless your bread and your water; and I will take sickness away from among you." *

That had to be the explanation. The monk stood up and saw that Knud was reading the words.

"It is true," said the monk. "It is a promise that has been given by our god and it is signed with his blood." The monk was referring to the death of the King of Heaven. "The promise can never be changed. It is the sign of the greatest love and love never leaves its promise. It will come true sooner or later. If you wish to follow him, he will keep his promise and equip you to be the shield of Christianity in your own country. Never forget the great promise." Knud had an answer. He would never again go on a raid.

He buried the dead and brought the survivors to the shore. He wanted to go home, home to a more peaceful life and tell about the new god.

The trip back went well even though there were less people to sail the ships.
